"Art" Arthur, age 64 of Old Hwy. 1, Wadley, died
Sunday evening at his residence.
Mr. Arthur, formerly of Fitzgerald, had lived in
Jefferson County for the past 30 years. He was a
retired U.S. Army veteran, retired from the
Department of Natural Resource Law Enforcement
Division and retired Chief of Police of Bartow.
Mr. Arthur was a member of Wrens Baptist Church
and the Peace Officers Association of Georgia.
He was preceded in death by a son, Eric S. Salter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday
morning at Moxley United Methodist Church, with
Reverend Ray Jenkins and Reverend Billy Howell
officiating. Burial will follow with honors in the
Moxley Cemetery with the Department of Natural
Resources Honor Guard.
Pallbearers are Wayne Futch, Glynn Petrie, Curt
Petrie, Mark Williamson, Perry Darley and Lee
Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be all of the
city (Bartow, Wadley, Louisville) and Jefferson
County Law Officers.
Survivors include his wife, Betty S. Arthur of
Wadley; a son, Thomas Arthur of Lehigh Acres,
Fla.; two daughters, Barbara A. Million of
Labelle, Fla. and Velvet S. Mathis of Gibson;
three sisters, Mildred M. Campbell of Fitzgerald,
Gerri Camp of Loganville and Marjorie Leonhardt of
Finglis, Fla.; seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening between the
hours of 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in
Wadley.
Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
