More detail on this person: Lt. Col. (ret) Robert A. Burbank, age 67 of Rt. 2, Ozark, Ala., died Saturday morning May 5, 2001 in the Ozark Nursing Facility, after a short illness. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston

Funeral Home with Rev. Hossea Parker officiating. Full military rites will be conducted at the funeral home.

Lt. Col. (ret.) Burbank was born in Cohassett, Ma. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts in 1955, he entered the U.S. Army and served 22 years as a pilot in various assignments that included two tours in Korea, one in Germany and one in Vietnam. While in the U.S. Army, he earned numerous awards and citations, and was a graduate of the Army Command and State College.

Upon retiring from the U.S. Army in 1975, he turned to a life of civilian aviation becoming first a flight instructor at Jacksonville Airport in Jacksonville, Ala., and then moving on to be the Flight Department Chairman and a student counselor for the Alabama Aviation and Technical College in Ozark. During this time he earned two Masters Degrees, one from Troy State University, and one from Jacksonville State University.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mrs. B. Grace Burbank of Ozark; son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. Burbank, Jr., and Caroline of Bay St. Louis, Ms.; brother, Howard N. Burbank and his wife Lillian of West Port, Mass.; three grandchildren, Kyle Watson Burbank, Taylor Ann Burbank and Carly Carol Burbank, all of Brandon, Ms.; father-in-law, Lester Thomley of Malvern; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Parker and her husband Husea of Malvern; and Judy Mclendon and her husband Carl of Ozark; brother-in-law,, Don Thomley and his wife Debbie of Clewiston, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
