More detail on this person: It is with deepest sympathy that I (CA Army National Guard Adjutant General) announce the death of Robert John Brandt, age 82 on 3 April 2020 in Rocklin, California, from complications related to Parkinson's disease. He is survived by Jacqueline. Robert was born in Anaheim, California. He began his military service as an enlisted Soldier in the California Army National Guard on 1 September 1954. He received his commission on 26 March 1958 and served until his retirement on 31 May 1999. At a time when many were actively avoiding military service, he volunteered for active duty in 1961 and his unit, the 33rd Transportation Company (Light Helicopter) was deployed to Vietnam from January 1962 through August 1963. He was the first National Guard officer to serve in Vietnam and the first National Guard Soldier awarded a Purple Heart for service in Vietnam.
