More detail on this person: Thomas W. Blalock,
64, of Fredericksburg died Saturday October 7,
2006 at Mary Washington Hospital after a
courageous year-long battle with leukemia. Tom
was born in Fredericksburg in 1942, and lived much
of his childhood in both Richmond and
Winston-Salem, NC. He graduated from NC State
with a BA in history, and was commissioned as an
officer in the US Army in 1967. He served as a
helicopter pilot in Vietnam, earning the Bronze
Star for valor and fourteen air medals during his
tour of duty. After leaving the service Tom
settled back in the Fredericksburg area, working
as a manager for McLean Trucking Company and
as a traffic manager at General Products.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judi, and
three sons: MAJ. Brian Blalock, wife Jennifer, and
grandchildren Nathan and Nora of New Bern, NC:
Brandon Blalock, wife Tracy, and grandchildren
Noah and Lauren of Chesapeake, VA; and Kyle
Blalock and fiance Nicole Van Scoder of Kennesaw,
GA. He was an avid relic hunter and bird watcher,
and was also an amateur historian of the Civil
War.
A Memorial service will be held at Trinity
Episcopal Church on Wednesday, October 11 at
11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, family requests
that donations in Tom's name be made to Trinity
Episcopal Church, 825 College Avenue,
Fredericksburg, VA 22408.
