Age 66, of Knoxville, TN, went to be with the Lord, on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 15, 1947 to George Kenneth and Martha Ann Holbrook Babish. Bruce loved music and sang in the Celebration Choir at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church where he was a member. Prior to his retirement, he was highly regarded as a salesperson and as a sales manager in the automotive and trucking industry. While attending Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, he volunteered to serve in the armed forces. He was a highly decorated army combat helicopter pilot of the Vietnam era, and later served as the executive officer of two military police battalions. He was preceded in death by his parents, George K. and Martha Ann Babish; and two brothers, Barry and John. Bruce is survived by his wife of 12 years, Barbara Susan Carter; son, George K. III (Jessica) of Pittsburgh, PA; daughters, Melinda Solomon (Greg) of Shreveport, LA, Nicki Babish of Minden, LA, Brittany Steffel (Bobby) and Kylee Babish of Pittsburgh, PA; six grandchildren, Izaiah, Elijah, Amelia, Emilie, Isabella, and Roman; brothers, Wayne (Lynn) of Clearwater, FL, George A. (Sarah) of Jacksonville, FL, and Warren of Pittsburgh, PA; sisters, Paula Veres (Joe) of Denver, PA and Diane Bannon (Larry) of Jacksonville, FL. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Merchant Drive, Knoxville, TN 37912, with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 6:00 p.m., with Reverend Kent Williams and Reverend Terry McNatt officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2013 in the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 East Governor John Sevier Highway in Knoxville, with full military honors to be conferred.
