More detail on this person: Ocala - Joseph, or Jody as a lot of his friends and family knew him, was a retired CW4. Born in Newport News Virginia, he died peacefully on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Legacy House in Ocala, Florida. He was the beloved husband of Joan and devoted father of sons, Jason and wife, Crystal, Jeremy, and Joshua. Later, he enjoyed extended second family, as father to daughters, Julie Martin, husband, Gregg, and Jane Johnson. He was the son of Frances Clinton Bew and Lilly Frances Lawson of Virginia. Graduating from Churchland High School, he later completed college while serving in the U.S. Army for 29 years as a helicopter pilot. In retirement, he was an avid golfer who shared his talent with many friends and family. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 21 years, are eight grandchildren, Ethan, Jordan, Jozlyn, Joesphyn, Lindsay, Stephanie, Josh, and Zachary. He also had three great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Hunter, and Dakota. Jody will be interred at 11:00 a.m. on November 16, 2017 at Bushnell National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to University of Florida School of Medicine Oncology Department or Hospice of Marion County.
