More detail on this person: Jerry Brove, age 79, of Avon Lake, Ohio, died Friday May 14, 2021 following a lengthy illness.He was born August 5, 1941 in Lorain Ohio. He grew up in Lorain and remained there through his 20s. He chose to raise his family in Amherst, where he lived for approximately 40 years.He attended Lorain High, graduating in the class 1959 B. He attended Ohio State, and graduated from Baldwin Wallace University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business. He was a lifelong resident of Lorain County.Jerry was a Huey Helicopter Pilot for the Army Air National Guard. He was a member of the 112th Engineer Battalion in Cleveland, and Company Commander of the 145th infantry Battalion in Lorain Ohio. He was active from 1963 to 1994, formally retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2001.He was an Electrician for Ford Motor Company in Lorain, where he worked there for 35 years, retiring in 1996. He also served as a Bargaining Committeeman for the UAW.He was a man of faith, marrying his wife Margie in 1965 at St. Peters Lorain. He attended St. Joseph's in Amherst for many years, and was most recently a parishioner of Nativity of BVM in South Amherst.He was a member of Stonington Lodge #503 in Amherst, where he held various positions including Grand Master of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was an active participant of various organizations such as National Sojourners, El Koran, the American Legion, and VFW.Jerry loved to travel, taking his wife, children and grandchildren on many adventures and to various major sporting events. He was passionate about encouraging youth to become patriotic leaders, volunteering at programs such as Buckeye Boys State, Spirit of America Youth Program, and organizing scholarships.He leaves behind his son, Jay Brove (Amber) of Taylorsville KY, and daughter, Michelle (Randy) Wasuk of Marblehead Ohio. He was the proud papa of five grandchildren: Cassandra (Pablo) Perri, Justice Falasco, Jay Michael Brove, Lyndsey Wasuk, and Kate Brove, and one great-grandchild arriving in November. He also leaves behind a dedicated sister, Joyce (Ron) Naelitz, a nephew, and several nieces.He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Margaret (nee Tardio) in 2006, and his parents, Joseph and Jenny (nee Kumse) Brove.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 19, from 5 - 8 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Prayers will be held on Thursday, at 10:15 am, also in the Funeral Center, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial, at 11:00 am, at Nativity of the BVM, 333 S. Lake Street, S. Amherst, OH 44001. The Rev. Fr. Timothy J. O'Connor, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
