More detail on this person: Carter Brooks, 79, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, passed away on Friday, April 6th, 2018. Carter was born in St. Petersburg, Florida to Rose and Richard Brooks on November 14, 1938. He went to school in Williamsburg, Virginia and attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, graduating from the University of Tampa. He married Gisela Fischer on April 17th, 1960 in Berlin, Germany. Carter was a 20-year Army veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter Pilot (1967 and 1972) and retired as a Major. He was awarded many medals honoring his service including The Distinguished Flying Cross, The Bronze Star and The Purple Heart. Carter is survived by his wife of 58 years Gisela, Daughter Virginia (Julie) Sloan, Grandson Shannon Brooks , Sisters Leslie Hazelet and Kim Tickner, Aunt Marjorie Brooks, 3 Great-Grandchildren, Hailey, Zachary and Heaven, Brother-in-law Dieter, and many nephews and nieces. Carter's family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to Dr. Reyes-Corcho, nurse Liz, and all the other nurses who made his last days as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, any donation to the Humane Society of Broward County in Carter's memory would be greatly appreciated.
