More detail on this person: FALMOUTH - Richard A. Burner, 75, of Falmouth, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at his residence after a short illness. His immediate family was at his side. Richard was born on Jan. 29, 1933, in Portland, the son of Robert L. and Alma L. Burner of Falmouth. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Joan Brown of Falmouth, on July 3, 1954, in Falmouth. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Major in March 1979, having served two combat tours as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. His last assignment was that of Senior Army Advisor to the Maine Army National Guard. He received many awards and commendations including the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, 15 Air Medals, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, and the Purple Heart, to name a few. Richard graduated from Falmouth High School and received a BS in Business from the University of Nebraska. Richard was an avid yachtsman. He and his wife Joan spent 17 years traveling from their home in Falmouth to Florida ports and points south for the winters. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Burner; his three sons, Scott Burner and his companion Sharon Taylor, Scott's daughters Deirdre Burner and Averil Burner, all of Falmouth; Keith and Bernadette Burner and their son Cody Burner of Scarborough; and Chris Burner of Falmouth and Chris' daughter Christina Burner of Gorham; his great-granddaughter Alexa Brown of Falmouth; and his brother Jack Burner and his wife Dixie Burner of Ocala, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter Pamela Burner; and his brother, Robert L. Burner Jr. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, from 3-5 p.m., at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth followed with a memorial service at 5 p.m., also at the funeral home.
