More detail on this person: Bill (William Earl Bellis), a highly decorated Viet Nam veteran, passed away on Friday August 4, 2003 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 20, 1945, Bill was the beloved son of Claire Harrigan of Dedham, Massachusetts and John R. Bellis of Harrell, New York. Bill grew up in Buffalo, New York and enlisted in the United States Army where he began his career in aviation. As a pilot Bill flew medivac helicopters in Viet Nam and was decorated for his courage. A member of the National Guard Bill flew for the Erie County Sheriff Department and participated in a number of rescue missions including the Blizzard of 1978. He was a proud member of the Buffalo Quite Birdmen, Buffalo Hangar. As a civilian, Bill piloted for the FAA and for commercial airlines based in the United States and overseas. In recent years, Bill provided ground transportation as a cab driver in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Bill is survived by three first cousins: Joan Sullivan Gray of Brain Tree, Massachusetts, Matthew Sullivan, of San Francisco, California, and Harry McDermott of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He will also be missed by dear friends in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Buffalo, New York who knew his unselfish generosity and fierce loyalty. A memorial service will take place at Hunter Funeral Home of Capitol Hill on Friday August 15, 2003 at 3:00 P.M. A visitation will take place on Friday August 15, 2003 from 2:00-3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to the charity of your choice.
