W. "Bill" Brennan, 58, died Sunday (May 14, 2006),
at Community Hospital in McCook.
He was born Feb. 16, 1948, at Fort Dodge, Iowa, to
John E. and Anna Mae (Randall) Brennan and
moved with his family to Stratton at an early age.
He was a member of the graduating class of
Stratton High School in 1966 and went on to
receive his Associates Degree from McCook Junior
College.
On April 1, 1969, he was inducted into the U.S.
Army where he served his country at home and
abroad in Vietnam. He was a Warrant Officer and
helicopter pilot, and received the Bronze Star
before receiving his honorable discharge in 1975.
He married Cheryl L. Higley on Dec. 6, 1969, at
Mineral Wells, Texas.
After returning home, Bill worked for Miller
Manufacturing until the plant closed in 1981, and
then for a short time at Miller Weeder Co. He was
employed for a short time by Murfin Drilling as a
truck driver before he began working at Country
Gas where he delivered agri fuels and propane to
area residents. He later worked as a ranch hand
for Lyndell Whipps for several years before being
employed by Timber Creek Homes.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Anna Mae
Brennan, and one brother, Joe.
Survivors include his wife of more than 36 years,
Cheryl Brennan; son, John G. "Greg" Brennan; and
father John E. Brennan, all of Stratton; brothers,
Bob Brennan, also of Stratton, Buck Brennan of
Cheyenne, Wyo., Paul Brennan of Grand Junction,
Colo., Jake Brennan of Culbertson, Frank Brennan
of Medicine Bow, Wyo., Kenny Brennan, of
Stratton; sisters, Carol Hanes of Trenton, and
Mary Brennan of McCook; father and mother-in-law,
Wayne and Lucille Higley of Stratton;
sister-in-law, Marge Shepherd of Lincoln;
brothers-in-law, Dick Higley and wife, Janet of
Grand Junction, Colo., Don Higley of Reading
Berkshire, United Kingdom, and Jim Higley of San
Diego, Calif.; and two grandsons.
A vigil for the deceased and rosary was Tuesday,
7:30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev.
Sean Redmond officiating. A private family
memorial mass and inurnment with military honors
will be held at a later date.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
Memorials may be given in his name.
Arrangements are under the direction of Forch
Funeral Chapel of Stratton.
