More detail on this person: WINTERVILLE - Mr. Michael R. Burgwardt, 64, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 4 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends after the service.

Mr. Burgwardt, a native of Hamburg, N.Y., had been a resident of Greenville for the past eight years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology and SUNY University of Albany, New York with an accounting degree. He received a Master's degree in social work from Barry University of Florida. He was owner and operator of Real Estate properties in the area. He was a member of the Washington Yacht Club in Washington, N.C. and the Rotary Club in Florida. He was an avid sailor and loved flying.

He is survived by his loving wife, Samira Burgwardt; daughters, Evera Dillard, DeeDee Canzano, and Elise Van Barneveld, all of Georgia; four grandchildren; sisters, Kate Morey, of Lyon, France, Molly Bederian, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Heidi Burgwardt, of Pahoa, Hawaii; and numerous nieces and nephews.
