Bennett 78, of Rolla Lt. Colonel (Ret.), Donald Paul Bennett, of Rolla, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at the age of 78.

He was born in Snyder, Okla., on June 25, 1933, to the late Charles Paul and Gertrude (Beason) Bennett.

On Sept. 23, 1961, he married Carol Bohannon and they were later blessed with two children.

Mr. Bennett earned a B.S. degree from Oklahoma State University and an M.B.A. from Webster University. He was a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1953-1976, which included two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Bennett has been a Rolla resident since 1972. After his military career, he taught business at Drury University for 27 years, and owned and operated a local ranch and cattle operation.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rolla where he had served as an Elder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Carl Bennett.

He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife of nearly 50 years, Carol Bennett, of the home; two children, Charles "Chuck" Bennett and wife Tammy, of Rolla, and Pam Van Bebber and husband Bruce, of Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Duane Bennett, of Chickasha, Okla.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Christopher, and Caitlin Bennett, Cody and Jesse Moon, Annie, Joshua, and Caroline Van Bebber; nieces, nephews, other extended family members and dear friends.

A funeral service for Donald Bennett will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Rolla. Rev. R. Lee Jennings will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Rolla City Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Null & Son Funeral Home.
