More detail on this person: KAILUA KONA, Hawaii - On January 1, 2014, Maj. Cecil Wayne
Boatwright (Ret.), age 71, passed away at Kona Community Hospital. Born November 2, 1942, he was
a loving son of the late Rev. Everett B. and Snow Lane Boatwright.
After attending Jefferson High School, Cecil joined the United States Army in 1959 where he served
his country with honor, receiving numerous metals and awards. He finished his career at Fort
Jackson, after serving 20 years.
A memorial service was held January 23rd in the National Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) in
Honolulu, HI, with full military honors. An additional memorial service will be held in Columbia on
February 23rd at 4 p.m. at Greenlawn Baptist Church.
Cecil enjoyed many hobbies over his lifetime, most notably as an avid craftsman, fisherman and
guitar player, who fulfilled his dream of retiring in Hawaii. Affectionately known as "Pop" by his
children, he was celebrated for his gentle kind spirit.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Linda of Kailua Kona; son, Jeff (Paula) Boatwright, daughters, Kelley
B. (Mike) Watson, Dana Frierson and Ami (Scott) Farr; brothers, Mike Boatwright and Tom Boatwright;
along with several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
