2007, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
He was born in Durham, N.C., on Feb. 21, 1943, to Edell Watson Boykin and Alvin Vernon Boykin Jr.
He graduated from Glendale High School in Kenly and attended UNC-Chapel Hill.
He entered the U.S. Army and was commissioned as an officer.
He served his country in Korea and in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot.
During his years of military service, he received a Bronze Star, Air Medals and a Vietnam Service
Medal.
Survivors include his daughters: Kathryn Buchanan (Brandon) of Cleveland and Krystina Hobson (Kent)
of Lynn Haven, Fla.; sister, Becky Roberts (Tom) of Clayton, N.C.; brother, Chip Boykin (Barbara) of
Kenly, N.C.; and five beloved grandsons: Zachary Hobson, Nicholas Hobson, Ryan Hobson, Grant
Buchanan and Grayson Buchanan.
A memorial service and interment with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on
Jan. 23, 2008.
