-- Alan Brooks, 67, passed away September 7th,
2012, of natural causes at his residence in
Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands.
Alan was born on March 14th, 1945 at Leominster
Hospital to parents Lloyd Brooks and Rosilda
(Fluet) Chappel.
Shortly after graduating from Leominster High
School, he joined the military where he proudly
served two tours in Vietnam earning the
Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal as a
helicopter pilot, two Bronze Star Medals and the
Combat Infantry Badge as an infantryman.
After his combat duty, Alan married his first
wife, Mary Brooks of Fayetteville, NC, and later
had their only son, Justin Brooks. Alan also
received his Bachelor's Degree from Central New
England College of Technology and graduated
magna cum laude in Computer Technology. He then
rejoined the Army where he was stationed at the
Pentagon to manage their computer systems. Alan
then transferred to St. Croix, VI where he earned
the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before his
retirement.
Early in Alan's life he was a competitive diver,
an avid hunter, a salt-water fisherman, a skilled
woodworker, and a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of
America. Later in life, Alan became a beloved
figure of St. Croix where he enjoyed billiards,
poker, blackjack, tennis, the tranquility of
island life, and the New England Patriots. Alan
will be remembered by his friends and relatives by
his unwavering tenacity and his endearing smile.
Alan will be greatly missed by his son, Justin
Brooks of Leominster; mother, Rosilda (Fluet)
Chappel of Leominster; brother, Norman Brooks of
Princeton; and his many friends in both Leominster
and St. Croix.
Alan is preceded by his brother Donald Brooks,
brother Dennis Brooks, father Lloyd Brooks, and
step-father Freedman Chappel.
BROOKS -- A funeral service will be held on
Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the
Massachusetts Veterans. Memorial Cemetery, 111
Glenallen St., Winchendon, MA. Calling hours in
the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home 106
West St., Leominster are Wednesday, October 10,
2012 are from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m.
