George "Bud" Burnison, (10 May 1931 - 6 May
2010) 78, Rantoul, passed away Thursday (May 6,
2010) at this home. His funeral will be at 10:30
a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church of
Rantoul. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery,
followed by a luncheon at the First United
Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7
p.m. Sunday evening at Lux Memorial Chapel,
Rantoul. George was born May 10, 1931, in
Potomac, a son of Forrest and Maude Duncan
Burnison. He married Mary Margaret Mersereau on
Feb. 12, 1956, in Rantoul. She survives. Also
surviving are his two sons, David (Karen), Normal,
and Douglas, Rantoul; two granddaughters, Ashley
and Erin; two sisters, Barbara and Judy; and a
sister-in-law, Doris. He was a graduate of Rantoul
High School and the University of Illinois College
of Banking and Finance. Mr. Burnison served as a
U.S. Army officer for 23 years, including two
tours of duty as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He
retired as a Leutenant Clonel. Upon leaving the
Army, George returned to Rantoul and became a
not-for-profit remodeling contractor and purveyor
of good works. He was very active as a member of
the First United Methodist Church of Rantoul and
served as trustee and on many committees. George
served as Ludlow Township supervisor and village
trustee, a member of the Ludlow Volunteer Fire
Department, on the Cemetery and Community
Services Boards, as well as many church work
camps. Memorials may be made to the First United
Methodist Church of Rantoul.
