Gordon Benitz, 74, Boliver, died unexpectedly
April 27, 2005.
He was born Aug. 29, 1930, in Wathena, Kan., to
Oscar and Agnes Benitz.
Gordon graduated from Troy High School at age 16.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1948. He served in the
Army National Guard, 69th Infantry Brigade, 21
years, retiring as major in 1970.
Gordon's career was in banking. He was bank
president in Ottawa, Kan.; Richmond, Mo.; Greeley
and Morgan, Colo.; and Lincoln and Pawnee City,
Neb.
Gordon married Rosemary Peterson, Halfway, Mo.,
May 6, 1954. She survives of the home.
In 1991, Gordon, and his wife, Rosie retired to
Bolivar. He served as a volunteer at Polk County
Senior Center, filing people's tax returns. He was
an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in
Bolivar.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents;
infant brother, Otto; and sister, Lorene Gibson.
Additional survivors: daughters, Vicki (Larry)
Helling, St. Louis, Mo.; and Nancy (Jim) Coffin,
Cheyenne, Wis.; son, Gary (Jody) Benitz,
Stuttgart, Germany; sister, Mildred Staudenmaier,
St. Joseph, Mo.; five grandchildren; and many
nieces, nephews.
The service was held April 30 at Zion Lutheran
Church, Bolivar.
