More detail on this person: Services for Lieutenant Colonel Charles Albert Brizius Sr., retired, 81, of Longview, will be 10 a.m. today, April 16, 2007, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel of Longview, with the Rev. David Farmer officiating. Entombment will follow in Lakeview Mausoleum. Mr. Brizius passed away Wednesday afternoon after battling Lewy Body Dementia for many years.

The family received friends 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.

Charles was born on May 14, 1925, in Evansville, Indiana, to Albert F. and Ersie May Brizius. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1940. He served in World War II, where he was engaged in the Battle of the Bulge, and in Vietnam, where he flew helicopter rescue missions. He received numerous medals, awards and citations including one signed by General Douglas McArthur. He retired after 27 years of service.

He and his wife, Brigitte, moved to Longview in 1967, and he became a successful business man in the real estate appraisal field. He served on the city zoning board for several years and the Gregg County Appraisal Review Board. He was an active member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge and Sharon Shrine Temple. He was also a member of the First Christian Church, where he was a deacon and active in numerous activities until his health began to fail.

Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Brigitte Brizius; sons, Steven, David and wife, Sheila, George and wife, Kathy, and Charles Jr. and wife, Sharon; daughter, Justine Atkins and husband, Ed; brother, Buck Garrett; sister, Roselle Schnabel; a special niece, Kay Griffin; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
