More detail on this person: SOUTH BEND - Douglas W. Bailey, passed away on August 12, 2009.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1949 in South Bend, IN, to Mae and Harry. His father, the late Harry
Bailey, and step father, Richard Baird, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen "Pee-Wee" (Lawton); his mother, Mae Baird; sister, Donna Durish;
his daughter, Tracie (Rick) Stewart; three grandchildren, RJ, Will and Jack Stewart. Uncle
Doug was a role model, and mentor to his nephew, Fred Lawton, and numerous other extended family
members, friends, and fellow veterans.
Upon graduating from Clay High School, Doug entered the U.S. Army and was a Warrant Officer in the
101st Airborne Division. He served in Vietnam as a Helicopter Pilot from 1968-1971. He was a
decorated soldier, including the Army Commendation Medal.
His happiest moments were those spent with his many friends and family, in addition to motorcycle
riding, boating, and long walks in the park with his dog, Max.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2009 in the Hickey Funeral Home, 17131
Cleveland Road (entrances are open from Cleveland Road), where friends may call two hours before
services.
The family has asked that contributions be made in Doug's honor to a local Veterans' Administration,
U.S. Vets, or to the Animal Aid of Southwest Michigan, 1211 Dewitt Ave., Niles, MI 49120.
