More detail on this person: Michael V. Baker 5/10/1945 - 11/19/2011 Born in Philadelphia, Pa., to Valentine and Edith Baker, Michael passed away peacefully surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Michael graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1963. After enrolling in and attending courses at Temple University, he enlisted in the United States Army and bravely served his country as a helicopter pilot and member of the 334th Armed Helicopter Company in Vietnam, and, upon his return, as a flight instructor stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he moved to the West Coast, continued to fly helicopters, and started a family. In 1972, along with his family, Michael settled in Auburn, Calif., where he served in the National Guard and worked primarily as a locomotive engineer and alarm technician. Michael will be remembered as a caring father and friend. His generosity and thoughtfulness touched the lives of many and he spent much of his time giving back to his community. He was a dedicated and longstanding member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Teresa of Avila Parish, and Applegate Civic Center Club. His passions included collecting books, camping, music, and singing in St. Teresa's choir. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his children: Jon of Cincinnati, Ohio, Victoria of Sacramento, Calif., Michael of Colfax, Calif., and Gabriel of Carmel, Calif.; numerous grandchildren; as well as his brother, Donald of Paoli, Pa., and his sisters, Marie Ditmore of Lancaster, Pa., and Christine of Wilmington, Del. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, December 16, at 1 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 11600 Atwood Rd., Auburn, CA 95603 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that donations be made to St. Teresa of Avila Church.
