More detail on this person: BARNETT Harlow (Buzz) Barnett III, 66, lost his long battle with a rare thyroid cancer on January 28, 2005. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on July 14, 1938. He was preceded in death by his father Harlow Barnett Jr. and mother Kathryn Rose Cudahy. He is survived by his wife Jane Elmore Barnett, son, Brian Scott Midland of Ladera Ranch, CA, stepmother, Rita Barnett, brother, Randle Barnett and sisters Mary Ford Barnett Graham and Bon Barnett Martens of Jacksonville, sisters Brooke Barnett Sumerford of St. Simons Island, GA, and Honey Cudahy Hays of Gilbert, AZ, brother Edward Cudahy of Denver, CO, and 3 granddaughters, 7 nieces and 6 nephews. Buzz was a graduate of Christ School, Arden, NC. He attended Emory University in Atlanta and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He served as Captain in the US Army and was awarded the Air Medal with sixteen oak leaf clusters and a purple heart during his tour of duty as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. Buzz and Jane were married in 1972. They spent three years in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, before moving to Grapevine, TX, where they lived for 20 years. After Buzz retired from his electronics business in 1996, they sold their home and purchased a motor coach. They traveled extensively for the next two years, then spent most of their summers in the Northwest and winters at an RV Resort in Surprise, AZ, where they built a home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 8, at 1 pm at Evergreen Cemetery, gate 5. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
