More detail on this person: Seabrook, SC - Francis Prevost Bates, 62, died Sunday Feb. 4, 2007 at Duke University Hospital.

Raised in Eastover and Murrells Inlet, S.C. by the late Harry Glenmore and Dorothy Provost Bates and is survived by his wife, Christina Roth Bates, two sons, Tucker and Taylor Bates; brother, Harry G. Bates III; sister, Catherine Campbell.

A graduate of Lower Richland High School, Bud attended Wingate College and served as a helicopter pilot in the US Marines.

He moved to Daufuskie Island in the early 70's, employed by the CIDA program which helped build and establish Daufuskie Island's first general store.

Also a commercial shrimper, he plyed the waters off Daufuskie until opening Bud Bates Realty, the first real-estate company on Daufuskie Island.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2007 at the Church of the Cross in Bluffton, SC.
