Thomas Dick Beahm Obituary, Kitsap Sun
(Bremerton, WA) - Tuesday, July 19, 2011 of
Bremerton Sept. 27, 1933 to July 8, 2011
Dick was born in Chicago, Ill. on Sept. 27, 1933
and left this world to be with his Lord Jesus
Christ on July 8, 2011. Dick moved to Bozeman,
MT. in high school where he excelled as a
gymnast. He met his future wife Barbara Dale and
they were married in May 1957.
Dick joined the Air Force in 1956 and became a
pilot. He flew many types of aircraft including
strategic bombers during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He served in Korea, and flew helicopter combat
support and search and rescue missions in
Vietnam. He also served as a pilot adviser to the
South Vietnamese Air Force. Dick was highly
decorated, earning The Distinguished Flying Cross,
The Bronze Star, The Air Medal (with oak leaf
cluster), and many other awards. Major Beahm
retired in 1971 with the aeronautical rating of
Senior Pilot.
Dick earned his Engineering degree at the
University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1973. After
living all over the U.S., he chose to settle his
family in Bremerton, WA where he worked as a
Nuclear Engineer at PSNS for 20 years, retiring in
1993 after 35 years of federal service.
Dick was a founding member of the CK
Presbyterian Church (est. 1977). He served as a
Deacon and Elder homemaker and happily served
on a Mission to the Mixe in Oaxaca, Mexico in
June 1998. He was a volunteer and past President
of the board of directors of the CK Food Bank.
Dick was an avid volunteer and loved giving to
others.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Albert
and Millie (Hammond) Duncan, and his beautiful
daughter Vicki Beahm. He is with them now. He is
survived by Barbara, his devoted children, Jay
(Ann) Beahm, Kelli Long, Skip (Doris) Beahm and
Ricki (Steve) Sipple, and his ten beloved
grandchildren.
Dick will be remembered as a Father, Grandfather,
Friend, Neighbor and American Hero. He will be
greatly missed and we are better for knowing him.
A memorial service celebrating Dick's life will be
held on Monday July, 25, 2011 at 2 p.m. at CK
Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nels Nelson Road
Bremerton, WA.
