More detail on this person: COEYMANS -- A graveside service with full military honors was held
Saturday for Carl J. Beaver, 69, who died Tuesday in his residence.
Mr. Beaver was born in Hickory, N.C., and he had lived in Coeymans Hollow for 13 years.
He enlisted in the Navy when he was 17, and served during World War II. He then was selected to
attend the naval school in Monterey, Calif., where he received a bachelor's degree in aeronautical
engineering and a master's degree in management.
Mr. Beaver then returned to active duty, and he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served during the
Korean War, and was a helicopter pilot responsible for evacuating the wounded during the Vietnam
War. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart, among other medals. Mr. Beaver
retired in 1968 as a captain.
Upon retiring from the military, he taught math and science at Coxsackie-Athens High School for five
years.
Survivors include three daughters, Sarah Beaver of Guilderland, Sheri Ciccone of Glenmont and Althea
Davis of Earlton; a brother, Billy Joe Beaver of Florida; his companion, Viola Hazelton of Coeymans
Hollow; and four grandchildren.
A service was held in Grove Cemetery, Coeymans.
