More detail on this person: BEAUFORT, N.C. - Retired Lieutenant Col. John Clemenz Beitz Jr., 57, died Sunday (April 27, 2003) at Carteret General Hospital.

Col. Beitz was a volunteer with the military affairs committee, sending items to troops and with Toys for Tots. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Carteret County, N.C., and an avid surf fisherman and a coach for women's softball.

He was a good dad and loved his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, JoAnn R. Beitz daughters, Jodi B. Lewis and husband, Scott of Beaufort, N.C., Lisa Ann Johnston and husband, Chris of Newport, N.C. stepdaughter, Peggy Quinn Willis and husband, Gary of Morehead City, N.C. stepson, Frank Winston Quinn Jr. and wife, Jan of Newport, N.C. his brothers, Robert Beitz and wife, Nancy of Tucson, Ariz., and Donald Beitz of Piscataway his grandchildren, Brittany, Christopher, Shirley and Bonnie Johnston, Mary Margaret Lewis and step-grandchildren, Ashley, Leigh-Anne, and Frank Quinn III.
