More detail on this person: Lt. Col. Joseph J. Bischoff (USMC-Ret.) died at age 86 in San Diego, CA on September 10, 2008, from heart surgery complications. A widower of only 1 1/2 years, he is survived by his son, James, daughter-in-law, Lucinda, and granddaughter, Sara-Ashley Bischoff, all of San Diego; his daughter-in-law, Christina, grandson, Jason and his wife, Gina, and granddaughter, Jennifer Bischoff, all of Tallahassee, FL. Following a 30-year career in the Marine Corps, Lt. Col. Bischoff settled in Chapel Hill, NC, with his wife Elizabeth. There he had a second lengthy career as Director of Operations for Durham County Regional Hospital. With the loss of his son Bill in 2005 and his wife Elizabeth in 2007, Joe relocated to San Diego last year to be near his remaining son Jim. Joe Bischoff will be missed by all who knew him. He was treasured for his keen mind, quick wit, and an indefatigable curiosity that stayed with him until the day he died.
