During World War II, Myron James "Jim" Bowen served with USMC Squadron VMD-154 at Camp Elrod on Espiritu Santo Island, New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) in the South Pacific.

He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery on 10 July 1998.
