More detail on this person: Much loved husband and father Thomas Paul Boxdorfer, 68, of Placentia, CA was called home to heaven on Saturday, August 1, 2009. Born to Rev. Elmer and Leona Boxdorfer on April 21, 1941, in Warrensburg, Missouri, Thomas was raised in Maywood, California. As an aviator in the United States Marine Corps from 1963-1976, he served in Vietnam flying UH-34 helicopters. Following his service in the Marine Corps, Tom loved his career teaching eighth grade US History in Riverside in the Alvord Unified School District; he taught for 37 years, and his last 32 years were at Loma Vista Middle School. In addition to working with students and fellow educators, Tom enjoyed Angels baseball and UCLA athletics. Tom is survived by his wife of forty years, Kay of Placentia; daughter, Suzanne of Fullerton; son, Jonathan of Orange; mother, Leona of Riverside; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Gil Dyrr of Riverside; niece, Joanna Dyrr Wagner of Oakland; and mother-in-law, Vera Hinnant of DeFuniak Springs, FL. Services will be held on Friday, August 7, at 7pm, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 2311 E. Chapman Ave., Fullerton, CA 92831. A private burial will be held at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral Bell Choir, St. John's Lutheran Church, 154 S. Shaffer St., Orange, CA 92866. McAulay & Wallace Mortuary.
