More detail on this person: Major Robert E. Brown, 79, of Jackson, Mississippi passed away
peacefully at home on October 17, 2016. He was born and raised in New Jersey. He was an amazing
husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He served for 20 years in the Marine Corps,
during his time in the service he spent three tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot rescuing
injured soldiers, among other duties. He earned a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained during the
war. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he went back to college and graduated from Bellhaven
University and earned his Master's Degree at Mississippi College. He went on to teach at both of
these colleges and also helped to start the Mississippi Ehtics Commission.
He is survived by his daughter Marleigh Starr of Madison, his brother Bill Brown (Janet) of New
Jersey, his granddaughter Kristi Myers (Dusty) of Madison, his grandson Robbie Starr of Madison, as
well as his pride and joy his two great grandsons, Hayden and Jake Myers of Madison. In his spare
time he enjoyed playing Bridge on the internet, drawing, ordering from Amazon, as well as writing
numerous letters to the editor that were published in both the Clarion Ledger as well as the
Northside Sun. He also enjoyed playing with his two dogs, as well as playing Chess and pretending to
pilot helicopters and planes with his great grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Marion Brown, his parents Robert and Marjorie Brown, his
daughter Ethel "Midge" Bates, as well as his beloved dog, Blue.
His memorial was handled by Natchez Trace Funeral Home.
