Retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Desmon
Franklin Burnette, 65, died Friday, June 23, 1995.
He was a native of Cascades and had been a
Peninsula resident since 1968.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in
Danville. Mr. Burnette was an Army pilot, retiring
in 1970 after 23 years' service. During his Army
career, he was awarded the National Defense
Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam
Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign
Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Senior Army
Aviator Badge, Antarctica Service Medal and the
Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He also
retired from the Virginia ABC Board in 1990 after
20 years of service
He is survived by his wife, Doris E. Burnette; two
sons, Bobby W. Burnette of Grafton and Michael F.
Burnette of Newport News; one daughter, Linda B.
Yoder of Newport News; two sisters, Anne P.
Walton of Sutherlin and Addie L. Oakes of
Ridgeway; three granddaughters and one grandson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m.
Tuesday in the chapel of W.J. Smith and Son
Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald W. Showalter
officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial
Park. Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.
at the W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home.
