More detail on this person: PITTSBORO - Henry Boswell, III, of Fearrington Village, Pittsboro, died on Wednesday, July 3. Henry recently retired as a superintendent at the state recreation area at Kerr Lake. He previously retired as an office in the U.S. Navy after serving twenty-three years, including duty in Vietnam where he served as a helicopter pilot.

After his Navy career, Henry's love of nature led him to obtain degrees in biology and ecology from Old Dominion University and UNC - Chapel Hill, and then to service with the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation at Jordan and Kerr Lakes.

Henry was born in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1943, the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Henry Boswell, and son of Colonel and Mrs. Henry Boswell, Jr. Henry is survived by his wife, Patricia of Pittsboro, son Andrew E. Boswell, daughter Heather B. Swann and granddaughter, Gabrielle Swann of Chesapeake, Virginia, father Henry Boswell Jr. and sister Pat Boswell of Greensboro, and brother, Wray Boswell of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held at Satterwhite Point Community Building at Kerr Lake near Henderson, NC, on Monday, July 8, 2002 at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of Hospice, P.O. Box 2596, Henderson, NC 27536; UNC Hospice, P.O. Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312; Nature Conservancy of NC, 4705 University Dr., Suite 290, Durham, NC 27707; or Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Henry was a "PLANK OWNER" of HA(L)-3 and was a LTJG at the time attached to HC-1 Det 21 and Det Vung Tau (Pre-Commissioning Unit set up to form HA(L)-3) from 12/31/1966 to 2/11/1967, and later HA(L)-3 Det 4, 2/11/1967 to 11/2/1967. Henry got the nickname "Pistol" from his Grandfather when he was in High School in MS.
