(LTC, USA Ret.) James Burton, 81, died on
November 20, 2013. Born in Wichita, KS, he grew
up in Tulsa, OK. As a Boy Scout, he earned the
rank of Eagle Scout. Jim graduated from Will
Rogers High School and Oklahoma State
University. He accepted a regular Army commission
and entered the service in July 1954. He proudly
served his country for 22 years, first as a
paratrooper, aviator, and finally an intelligence
officer. He flew fixed wing reconnaissance
aircraft in Korea in 1956-57 and served two tours
in Vietnam in 1965-66 and 1968-69 where he flew
multi-purpose light and the CH-54 "Flying Crane"
helicopters. He became a Master Army Aviator
while stationed at Ft. Monroe, VA from 1970-73.
While there, he also earned an MBA
from the College of William and Mary before being
re-assigned to Ft. McPherson and then Ft. Gillem,
GA where he retired in 1976. He was pre-deceased
by his parents, his son Michael and his
granddaughter Mary. His memory will be treasured
forever by Pat, his wife of 59 years; his loving
children Jim and his wife Betty; Cherie Chepaitis
and her husband Jerry; Karen Breon and her
husband Stan; grandchildren Chris, Faith, Patrick,
Trey, Kristie, Ryan, Stephanie and Jamie; great
granddaughter Madeleine. Visitation will be
Monday, November 25th from 6:30PM until 8:00PM
at Eternal Hills Funeral Home, Snellville. A
Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on
Tuesday, November 26th in St Oliver Catholic
Church with the Reverends John Welsh and Juan de
la Cruz as concelebrates. Inurnment will be at
Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to the
American Lung Association , 2452 Spring Rd,
Smyrna, GA, or to your favorite charity .
