More detail on this person: Barton, James B. "Bart", Lt. Colonel U.S.A.F. Retired. His gentle heart suddenly and unexpectedly stopped beating, Thursday, October 26, 2017. He was born in Alexandria, LA on June 13, 1943 to James and Nena Barton. He graduated from LSU in 19654 and joined the U.S. Air Force. Bart served two combat tours in Vietnam. The first, flying the Jolly Green Giant helicopter, flying into North Vietnam to rescue downed pilots. His second tour, he would tell you he flew the F-4 Phantom fighter jet to shoot at those who shot at him in the helicopter. He received over 20 metals, i.e., the Distinguished Flying Cross for meritorious service and the Air Metal for heroism while participating in aerial flight. While serving at MacDill AFB as an instructor pilot he met the love of his life and partner, Judy Ingram Barton, it was love at first sight and six weeks later they were married. They had two amazing sons: Brad Christopher Barton, fiancé Grace Sherry Wong and James Nicholas Barton, wife Lisa Marie and his beloved grand-daughters, Allison Marie and Ava Grace Barton. Bart was a gentle yet strong, loving, caring man who gave unconditional love and service to his family, his friends, and his community. Even strangers and especially to his country. He served his country for 48 years-20 years in the USAF and 28 years at US Central Command. There will be no memorial service, per the wishes of this quiet man. If you care to share your memories of Bart or condolences to the family please visit www.blountcurrymacdill.com. If you wish to make a contribution in his name, his two favorite charities are St. Jude Children's Hospital and Paralyzed Veterans of America. His unconditional love, gentleness, strength and integrity will live on in all that knew him, but especially in his amazing sons, Brad and Nick and his beautiful granddaughters Ally and Ava. His life will enrich their lives and in turn their life contributions.
