More detail on this person: HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. (UPI) - Three Army men were killed Friday when their helicopter crashed and burned in a wooded area near here. Their deaths brought to nine the number of servicemen killed in air mishaps at the northeast Georgia airbase since last August.

Authorities said the UH-1 aircraft was on a routine training mission when it crashed some 20 miles from Savannah in Effingham County. Killed was 2nd Lt. Kenneth W. Birdwell, 28, of Savannah Beach. An Army spokesman said Birdwell was a student pilot. Identities of the other two victims were withheld pending notification of next of kin.
