More detail on this person: Norman F. Cates, 89, of Ocala, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2017. Norman was born in Durham, NC to Eugene and Josephine Cates and has lived in Ocala for the last 42 years. He was a WWII Navy veteran, and a US Army veteran of Korea and Viet Nam. He was an Army fixed wing and helicopter pilot who loved flying. He was a certified aircraft crash investigator and also enjoyed writing and raising his family. Norman was a member and a deacon at Oak Griner Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Eloise Cates of Ocala; children, Frank, Doug, Anne, and Chris, all of Ocala; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren; and nephew, Charles.

Visitation will be Friday, May 5, 2017 from 10-11am at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Ocala. Funeral service will begin at 11:00am followed by burial at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Arrangements are being handled by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd. Ocala, FL 34470 (352)-629-7171. -
