More detail on this person: Howard A. "Buddy" Cannon, 71, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Moses Cone Hospital. He was born on September 28, 1946 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Clarence T. and Iris Banter Cannon. Buddy graduated from Elon University with honors after being drafted into the US Army where he served from 1968 to 1973. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Combat Helicopter Pilot. Buddy achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and was awarded the following decorations; NDSM, ARAVBAD, VCM, VSM, AM, Purple Heart, BSM, DFC and ARCOM. Following his military service, Buddy worked in the field he loved, aviation and aircraft sales. He owned his own company, Cannon Aircraft Sales, Inc. and retired after 40 years of work. He took great pride in collecting classic cars, with his greatest interest in Post War America cars. His family was his first priority and he always enjoyed time he could spend with them. He loved his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Papa Buddy." He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to many. He will be deeply missed. Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Karen Little Cannon; two daughters, Diane Cannon Cates (Matthew) and Blair Cannon; sisters, Gail Hughes and Deborah Walker; brother, Steve Cannon; his pride and joy grandchildren, Jackson and Emmeline Cates and his "four legged friend", Belvedere. Graveside Services with full military honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 or St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
