More detail on this person: Calvin Coates, of
Evansville, left us on March 30, 2016 to join his
fellow fallen brothers in arms from the 101st
Airborne Division.
Born March 4, 1946 Calvin lived life at full
volume. Upon graduating from high school, Calvin
spent many years serving his country in the
Marines and the Army. Calvin proudly served two
tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot from 66
-71. His valiant efforts and brave spirit earned
him numerous awards and upon completion of his
service received an Honorable Discharge. Upon
leaving the military, he graduated from Purdue
University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering
and worked as an engineer at Whirlpool until his
retirement. He was a proud member of the NRA,
Vietnam Helicopter Pilot's Association, John
Purdue Club, and the WSSC.
Calvin leaves behind four sons Calvin Jr.,
Stephen, Kyle and Ben; six grandchildren; a
younger brother, Chuck; and two former wives
Nancy and Serena. There will be a memorial service
in Cal's honor from 2:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday,
April 3, 2016 at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W.
Franklin Street, Evansville, IN 47712. Following
services in Evansville, Calvin will be buried in
Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations
be made to the Vietnam Helicopter's Pilot's
Association.
