More detail on this person: Lieutenant Colonel William C. Carter (US Army Retired) died Tuesday, April 8, 2014. He was a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee and was educated in the parochial and public schools of Chattanooga. He was preceded in death in 2010 by his wife, Carol McDonald Carter and in 1978 by his son, YN1 William M. Carter, US Coast Guard. A graduate of the University of Omaha in 1961, he retired from the U.S. Army in 1970, after service as an Army Aviator. He received his wings in 1954. Having received numerous military decorations and awards, he served in Korea, Germany and Vietnam. After retirement, he was employed by the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company and retired in 1986. He served as President of the Peninsula Association of Life Underwriter and the Peninsula Estate Planning Council. He received his Chartered Life Underwriter designation in 1975 and qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table several times. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Army Transportation Museum Foundation, founding member and Secretary of the Transportation Corps Aviation Association and numerous other civic and military organizations. Lieutenant Colonel was a member of the Catholic Church at Fort Eustis. Contributions are requested for the U.S. Army Transportation Museum Foundation, Fort Eustis, or other favorite charities. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel. A funeral service will be held 10 am Monday, April 14, 2014 at Fort Eustis Regimental l Chapel followed by interment in Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements by Altmeyer Funeral Home.
