More detail on this person: John H. Carr, Jr. "Buddy", beloved husband of Jean (Hayes) Carr, passed away Wednesday at St. Mary Home. John was born in Hartford January 28, 1933 to John and Julia (Scully) Carr and had deep roots in the city. He was a graduate of St. Augustine School and Bulkeley High School (1950). John then went on to Providence College graduating in 1954. After College he entered the U.S. Army, serving as a helicopter pilot in Germany, then on to the National Guard and Army Reserves retiring as a Lt. Colonel. John worked at Travelers as the director of Corporate Training before his retirement. Retirement didn't slow him down and he stayed very active, as a volunteer at the Bushnell, President & Treasurer of Bulkeley High Alumni Association, President of his condo association, active in the faith community of St. Thomas the Apostle, and as an employee of the Molloy Funeral Home. John was a man of great dignity, kindness and faith who loved his wife and his family. He was a great fan of his grandchildren and attended as many of their sports, school and other events as possible. He was also an avid fan of the Red Sox and UConn Women's Basketball. John also volunteered his time for several years coaching youth baseball. In addition to Jean he is survived by his six sons; Edward and Kathleen, Francis and Natalia, Joseph and Pamela, James and Lynn, Peter and Marie, and Stephen; sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of which will miss Bud. John was predeceased by a brother Donald and two sisters, Carol Carr and Mary Phelps. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 23, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave. W. Hartford. Burial will be private at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. W. Hartford. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St. Thomas the Apostle School, 25 Dover Rd. West Hartford, CT 06119.
