More detail on this person: Gary Cantrell, age 76, died of a massive heart attack on Monday, October 9th, at his home in Jasper, Georgia. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Jane Cantrell, and his two daughters, Jenni (Brian) Russell and Christi (Clint) Newton, both of North Carolina, along with 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Sheri (Allen) Edwards of Tennessee and his brother, John Cantrell, of Florida, along with 5 cousins, Gary was predeceased by his parents, John W. Cantrell and Mildred Greene Cantrell. Gary was dearly loved by his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed. Gary served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a decorated Cobra Pilot and then worked a full career in computer programing, primarily in the Atlanta area. He was perpetually curious about how things worked, and he always had several projects in progress. In his retirement he filled his days with feeding birds, chopping wood, flying his drone, gardening, woodworking, walking, clearing roads on his land, and lately, operating his ham radio. He had recently been studying for his FAA drone license. Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
