More detail on this person: Terry Allen Carlson, a devoted husband and loving father, passed away on December 11, 2015 in a private plane accident, which sadly claimed the life of his cherished son Erick Carlson (27) and dear friend and coworker Jason Willems (26). Terry is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kim L. Wakeham Carlson, daughter Corrina Witkowski, stepson Kent Neidhold, grandchildren Allen Ross, Zofina & Nicholas Witkowski, brother-in-law Vincent Prestipino (best friend and brother in Christ), sisters-in-law Tammy Wakeham Prestipino and Cheryl Wakeham, and brothers-in-law Sidney Wakeham and Russ Wakeham, and many beautiful nieces and nephews. Born in Minneapolis MN on October 18, 1947, Terry moved to Frankfurt Germany with his parents at nine years old. He graduated from American Frankfurt High School in Germany in 1965. Terry proudly enlisted in the Army at 21 years old (1968) and quickly realized "up in the air" could be more enjoyable than boots on the ground, so he completed Officers Candidate School and learned to fly "Huey" helicopters in flight training. Terry served one year of active duty in Vietnam (70''-71''), successfully completing over 100 flight missions. Terry was thankful for all he learned in the service, and was honorably discharged in 1971, or "fired" as he liked to say. Thereafter, Terry served in the Air National Guard for several years, allowing him to fly helicopters longer. After serving in the Army, Terry moved to Virginia and completed his BA in accounting at VCU and his MBA at George Mason. After eight years at Peat Marwick, Terry started his own company (TA Carlson and Company) and over the next 25 years built a wonderful reputation in government contract work. He met Kim (married 1987), with Erick arriving in March 1988. For approximately the past three years, Terry was blessed to work with and help teach the "business" to his son, working for Capital Edge Consulting (owned by his dear friend, Chad Braley). Terry was extremely proud of Chad, and was thankful for Chad''s skillful mentoring of Erick. Terry adored flying, enjoyed traveling with Kim, boating, reading and Civil War history. A memorial service and celebration of life for Terry, Erick and Jason Willems will be held on December 18, 2015, 2PM at Bethesda North Marriott Hotel, 5701 Marinelli Road, North Bethesda MD, 20852. The family is very thankful for the outpouring of hope and prayers. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the burn unit that treated Erick. Donations can be mailed to UPMC Mercy Burn Services, 1400 Locust Street, Suite 6530, Bldg. B, Pittsburgh, PA, 15219. Make Checks Payable to Mercy Burn Fund in Memory of Terry and Erick Carlson and Jason Willems. The family is very thankful for the outpouring of hope and prayers.
