More detail on this person: Captain Burgess Carter, 68 of Princeton, West Virginia Captain Burgess Carter Bluefield Daily Telegraph (WV) - Wednesday, March 14, 2012 PRINCETON _ Captain Burgess Carter, 68, of 170 Caywood Lane, Princeton, W.Va., died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at his residence. Born June 30, 1943 in Man, W.Va., he was a son of the late Don and Garnet Perry Carter. Captain Carter was of the Baptist faith and was a officer of the U.S. Army with 20 years of service to his country. He was formerly the senior instructor of the JROTC program in Mercer County school systems from which he retired with 20 years of dedicated service. He was a life member of the VFW Post 3856 and also a life member of the American Legion Post 0009. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Henry Carter and a brother, Ronald Carter. Survivors in addition to his wife, Katherine include six sons, Michael Carter, Eric Carter and Steven Carter, all of California, Sgt. Jeremy Carter of Ft. Lee, Va., Brian Carter and Donnie Carter, both of Princeton, W.Va.; three brothers, Johnny Carter, Prentis Carter of Huntington, W.Va., and Barry Carter and wife, Karen of Madison, W.Va.; one sister, Victoria Cresong and husband, Hubert of Man, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Friends may call Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield, W.Va. from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at a later date in Man, W.Va.
