More detail on this person: ROY LEWIS CRAWFORD Roy Lewis Crawford, 83, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2012. He was a native of Gastonia, N.C., and had been a Peninsula resident since 1963. Mr. Crawford retired, as a CW4, from the U.S. Army at Fort Eustis after 32 years of service. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was the recipient of numerous decorations including the Bronze Star with One Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of North Riverside Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lassie M. Crawford; one son, Michael L. Crawford and his wife, Emma of Gloucester; one brother, Robert Crawford of Taylors, S.C.; three grandchildren, Rachel Akers and her husband, Barry of Gloucester Point, Katherine Taylor and her husband, Matt of Yorktown, and Matthew Crawford and his wife, Leah of Gloucester Point; and one great- grandson, Brandon Akers. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, in the chapel of W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family would like to thank York Convalescent, for their special care and attention to Mr. Crawford. Memorial donations may be made to North Riverside Baptist Church, Building Fund, 311 Selden Road, Newport News, VA 23606.
