More detail on this person: Lt. Col (Ret) Milton P Cherne was a long time Army Aviator and TC officer. He was originally commissioned as Armor but transferred to TC. He had the honor of commanding the first operational helicopter unit in Vietnam - 57th Transportation Company, Light Cargo Helicopter (CH-21). This company was staffed over the years with many TC Army Aviators such as Emmett Knight, William Rudd, Darwin Beachchamp, John Thomas, Thomas C (Top Cat) West, Don Jordan. Milt passed away March 29, 2009. He resided in the Fort Worth Texas area. Milt will be cremated and he will rest In Dallas Ft. Worth Military Cemetery. He will have full military honors on Wednesday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. A short Memorial service will be held at North Richland Hills Baptist Church at 11:30 followed by a luncheon at the church. As far as I know he only pulled the one tour in Nam and on that tour he was CO of the 57th his entire tour. Retired and flew for the aviation division of San Deigo PD to my knowledge.
