More detail on this person: LTC (U.S. Army Retired) Frederick L. Clapp, 83, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Columbus Hospice House.

Funeral services with Full Military Honors will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel , 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.

A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. The family will receive friends Monday, November 23, 2015 from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Fred was born April 4, 1932 in Findlay, OH, son of the late Clifford and Helen Clapp. He enlisted in the Army in 1949 at the age of 17 and eventually became a Master Army aviator, flying both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. He loved to fly! He served in both the enlisted and officer ranks and in both the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts. His other military assignments took him all over the United Stated to include Alaska and to Turkey and Panama. Following his military career, he worked as a stockbroker, managed an automotive supply business for his father-in-law and from 1975 - 1979, led a multi-billion dollar helicopter training program for Bell Helicopter in Iran. He remained active in the community serving at various times as president of the local Military Officers Association and president of Brookstone School's Parents Association. Finally, he spent time pursuing his two passions, golf and farming.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years , the one true love of his life, Marth Anne Clapp; two sons and their wives, Frederick and Robin Clapp and Timothy and Nibras Clapp; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made instead to Columbus Hospice.
