Cox Sr., 74, will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Mr. Cox died Saturday, June 19, 2004. Born in Georgetown, he was a son of the late Bennie W. and Janie Smith Cox. He retired from the United States Army as Chief Warrant Officer-4 after 28 and a half years of service and was a member of the Georgetown Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Geraldine (Gerry) Grier Cox of West Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Richard H. Gehling Sr. of Lexington; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis O. and Sandy Cox Jr. of Atlanta; grandsons, Richard H. Gehling Jr. and Joshua B. Gehling of Lexington; sister, Janice Frye of Georgetown and brother, Alton Cox of Georgetown. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by brothers, Bennie Cox Jr., Bright Cox, Clyde Cox and Kenneth Cox.
