More detail on this person: Joseph Robert Cates 1931 ~ 2010 Joseph Robert Cates passed away June 12, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born December 26, 1931 in Rochester, Minnesota to Robert and Martha Cates.Upon graduation from the University of Minnesota, he received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force where he served for 20 years. He had assignments in the US, Europe, South America and Vietnam. Upon retirement he did graduate work at the University of Utah. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Cates; and three daughters, Mary Jo Cates, Rebecca Randle, and Mimsy Laland. He is also survived by his brothers, William Cates, and sister, Bonnie Blakely; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to Dr. James Pearl and Dr. William Mackie. We also wish to thank the staff at LDS Hospital Intensive Care Unit and Orchard Cove Rehabilitation Center. There will be a private family memorial service in San Francisco, California at a later date. Funeral directors- Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary.
