More detail on this person: Alvin Lester Coley, 73 of New Bern died peacefully on Dec. 14, 2013
after a lengthy battle with kidney disease and Alzheimer's disease.
He was a long time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he thoroughly enjoyed singing in the
choir. He retired from Sprint in 2007 as the PR manager for thetri-county area. He served two tours
in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot with the United States Marines, flying medevac and KC 130's. He was
a Purple Heart recipient and toured with the Blue Angels before beginning his civilian career. He
liked local politics and community activities and was active on several committees; including Swiss
Bear, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club and Committee of 100. He is survived by his wife, Amber B.
Coley; a son George Clarence Coley of New Bern; brother, E.Y. Coley, Jr. of Buford, Ga.; sister,
Georgialee Thomas, of Rex, Ga. A memorial service will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church on
Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends following the memorial service
atthe church. Memorial contribution can be made to the N.C. Alzheimer's Association or the
National Kidney Foundation.
