More detail on this person: Paul Coovert, 72, of Longboat Key, Florida died March 31, 2020. He was born December 11, 1947 in Baltimore, MD the son of Sergeant Major Henry Coovert and Dorothy Coovert. As a child of a military family, Paul lived and traveled throughout the world before landing at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma. He graduated from Midwest City High School, OK in 1966 and started college at Central State University when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He wanted to learn how to fly and the Army had a need for helicopter pilots. After graduating from Warrant Officer school, he served as a helicopter pilot in South Korea where he conducted patrols along the Demilitarized Zone. During his time in the Army he discovered his passion for flying and went on to accept a commission as a Second Lieutenant and transfer into the U.S. Marine Corps. He spent his military career as a C-130 pilot serving in various locations in the United States and overseas. After retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1990, Paul relocated with his family to Singapore where he worked as a C-130 simulator instructor for Asian Pacific Training and Simulation. He later moved his family to Hong Kong where he worked for Cathay Pacific Airlines as a 747 pilot and simulator instructor before retiring at 55. After 20 exciting years overseas the Coovert family returned to the United States where he continued his career with Atlantic Coast Airlines, Independence Airlines, and finally CAE in Tampa, FL. Paul's passion for the sky lives on through his son, Austin Coovert who is an officer and pilot in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife, Malihe Karimi; sons, Lt. Commander Austin Coovert and Conrad Coovert; step-son, Navid Ravaie; mother, Dorothy Coovert and brothers Mike, Jack and Scott. Services will be 10:00 A.M.
